Responsible for the implementation of the Council's civil defence emergency management services, so we are ready for whatever mother nature chooses to throw at us.

Civil defence is ultimately about saving lives and property from disaster. It is also about reducing the potential for disaster and its impacts, knowing what to do when a disaster does arrive, and preparing for the aftermath of disasters.

Civil Defence in the Waimakariri District is managed by the Council. Council resources, government departments, non-government organisations, community groups, trained volunteers and willing members of the public are all brought together by the Council’s civil defence staff to support the community during a disaster.
