The Waimakariri District Council has an exciting opportunity for a fixed-term Human Resources Manager to join us on a full-time basis in Rangiora, North Canterbury from August 2025 – September 2026 to cover a period of parental leave. Reporting to the General Manager Organisational Development, you will provide strategic and operational leadership and guidance in the areas of employee relations, remuneration, learning and development, and performance management. You will possess drive, enthusiasm and a positive nature to assist the Council to meet its business and human resources goals and objectives. 

Your leadership style and management skills will allow you to continue to develop and oversee a small but high performing human resources team. A high level of emotional intelligence, commitment to continuous improvement and an ability to develop and maintain superb interpersonal relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders will be essential. You will be results oriented, an excellent coach and mentor, exercise a high level of judgement, integrity and discretion and be prepared to go the extra mile. 

Previous experience and success in a Senior Human Resources role in a large and complex organisation is required to be successful in this role. In addition to this requirement, you must be a holder of a recognised human resources qualification or equivalent in a related discipline. An understanding of Local Government would be an advantage but is not essential.
