About the Human Resources Coordinator Role
As our Human Resources Coordinator, you will be vital to the seamless delivery of people operations at Waimakariri District Council. Working closely with the rest of our HR team, you will contribute to a range of activities across the entire employee lifecycle – from recruitment and onboarding to maintaining HR systems and facilitating processes, as well as managing day-to-day employee queries. You will also play an important role in championing compliance and best practice across all HR functions, contributing to our positive, inclusive, and high-performing workplace. This is a permanent position 30 hours per week, with the opportunity for occasional additional hours until December 2025 while we implement a project.
Key Responsibilities – HR Administration and Recruitment Support
- Coordinate recruitment and onboarding processes, including advertising vacancies, arranging interviews, and preparing documentation.
- Maintain accurate and confidential HR records and employee data
- Support the administration of employment agreements, variations, and other employee documents.
- Assist with end-to-end HR administration, ensuring compliance with Council policies and relevant legislation.
- Provide first-level guidance to staff and managers on HR processes, policies, and procedures and re-direct queries from our HR inbox to the rest of the team as required.
What You Will Bring – Skills and Experience Needed
- Tertiary qualification in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
- Minimum of 3 years experience in an HR support or coordinator role, preferably within a medium or large organisation.
- Knowledge of New Zealand employment legislation and best HR practice.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a solutions-focused attitude.
- Strong organisational skills, attention to detail, and ability to prioritise workload effectively.
- Proficiency with the Microsoft Product Suite, HRIS and other digital tools, and confidence working with confidential information.
