Library Customer Service Assistant
The Council is on the lookout for 2 Library Customer Service Assistants to work within our Collections Team.
Permanent Part time - 2 roles

We are advertising for two Library Customer Services Assistant roles. The successful applicants will be based within the Collections team, and therefore responsible for supporting our standards around collection management.
The successful candidates will be well supported in our service processes, understanding our customer guidelines and learning collections management, processing and mending skills.
You will be responsible for:
- Working consistently in a front-facing capacity providing excellent customer service to our hapori | community.
- You will be tasked with supporting a major collection. This will range from presentation skills, monitoring through to aiding the discard process.
- You will support our in-house processing procedures.
- One role will serve as the back-up support for our Interloan librarian.
- The successful candidates will also assist within the programming and events space as may be required.
You’ll possess:
- A passion for literacy and lifelong learning, and a commitment to community wellbeing.
- A love of literature, stories, and words across mediums.
- A genuine interest in the creation and delivery of dynamic library experiences that are responsive to diverse and changing community needs.
- A high level of digital/technical competence, with a sound understanding of financial budgeting and collection management and reporting.
- Knowledge and understanding of current and emerging library technologies.
- A successful track record of delivering impeccable service in a fast-paced environment.
The hours for these two roles are noted below. Please note Role 1 will permanently work upon our Thursday late night, however our library team works on a rotating roster for covering late nights in the event of sickness or leave. All library assistant roles are expected to support across our three sites (Rangiora, Kaiapoi and Oxford), though this role will be permanently based at Rangiora and Kaiapoi.
Library Customer Services Assistant – Collections
Role 1 – 30 Hours per week
Monday 8:30am - 4:00pm; Tuesday 8:30am - 3:00pm; Wednesday 8:30am - 3:00pm; Thursday 3:00pm - 7:00pm; Friday 8:30am - 4:00pm.
Role 2 – 28 Hours per week
Monday to Thursday 9:00am - 3:00pm; Friday 10:30am - 5:00pm.
