The Waimakariri District Council is looking for a motivated Project Engineer to join our Civil Projects team within the Project Delivery Unit. This is your opportunity to play a key role in delivering high‑quality civil infrastructure projects that directly support our communities — predominantly focused on works within the roading and transport space.

The role
As a Project Engineer (Civil Projects), you’ll contribute to an internal consultancy service that delivers high‑quality, cost‑effective engineering outcomes for the district. Working alongside the Civil Projects Team Leader and wider Project Delivery Unit, you’ll be involved across the whole project lifecycle.
In this role, you will:
- Carry out investigations, feasibility studies, and technical reporting
- Deliver concept and detailed design, including calculations, drawings, and design reports
- Support asset management through data analysis and reporting
- Prepare contract and tender documentation, and support contract administration
- Monitor project programmes and budgets, ensuring clear communication with stakeholders
- Lead or assist with construction management and project implementation
- Build strong working relationships with contractors, consultants, internal teams, and the community
What you’ll bring
- A degree in engineering or related science
- A minimum of 4 years’ experience in civil engineering
- Strong understanding of design, investigations, tender processes, and contract management
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Intermediate MS Office skills and familiarity with project management tools and concepts
- A collaborative approach and willingness to take ownership
- A full NZ driver license
- Desirable: Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) or working towards it
