About the Role
Waimakariri District Council is seeking a Graduate Engineer to join our Utilities Projects Team within the Project Delivery Unit, based in Rangiora, North Canterbury.
This role is ideal for a recent graduate looking to build a career in local government infrastructure delivery. We also welcome applications from engineers with 3+ years’ experience, in which case an Intermediate Engineer appointment may be considered.
The Project Delivery Unit provides in‑house engineering design, project management, and delivery services across Council, supporting Utilities, Roading, Greenspace, and other teams.
In this key position you will take responsibility for:
Assisting to manage capital works projects to ensure they carried out in a timely, technically competent and efficient manner
Working closely with Council staff, consultants, clients and contractors to deliver outstanding results
Assist with the planning, investigation, design and construction of three-waters utilities infrastructure, in such a way that the best community outcomes are achieved
Graduate engineers will be supported through mentoring, supervision, and professional development opportunities as they grow into the role.
About You
Be a qualified Civil or Natural Resources Engineer, or hold an alternative relevant tertiary qualification with technical expertise in Engineering
Experience in three-waters engineering, ideally in infrastructure or public works will be considered favourably
Have strong technical, organisation skills
Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently
