About the Role
We are seeking a detail-oriented Payroll Analyst to support the delivery of accurate, timely, and compliant payroll services within our Human Resources team.
Reporting to the Acting Human Resources Manager, this role plays a key part in ensuring payroll processing runs smoothly, with a strong focus on data integrity, customer service, and continuous improvement.
Key responsibilities:
Process fortnightly payroll accurately and on time using Datapay
Maintain payroll data integrity and ensure compliance with NZ legislation and Council policies
Respond to payroll queries from employees and managers in a timely, professional manner
Investigate and resolve payroll discrepancies and issues
Analyse payroll data to identify discrepancies, trends, and opportunities for improvement
Support reporting, reconciliations, and audit activities
Support system enhancements and process improvements, including working with Datapay
Work collaboratively with internal stakeholders and external providers
About you
We’re looking for someone who brings both technical expertise and a proactive, customer-focused mindset. You will also have:
3–5 years’ payroll experience, ideally in a medium to large organisation
Sound understanding of NZ payroll legislation, including Holidays Act requirements
Experience using Datapay (or similar payroll system)
Strong attention to detail and accuracy
Good analytical and problem-solving skills
Confident communicator with a customer-focused approach
Relevant qualification or working towards one (e.g. NZPPA) is desirable
Local government or public sector experience is beneficial but not essential
