Waimakariri District is one of the fastest growing Districts in New Zealand and the fourth largest, by population, in the South Island. This brings with it abundant challenges across a diverse range of areas. The Council is seeking up to two Summer Intern Engineers to work within the Project Delivery Unit, based in Rangiora.
About the Role
The Project Delivery Unit provides asset management and engineering planning, design, delivery and development consultancy services to the Utilities and Roading Department and the wider Council. This is a fantastic opportunity for engineering-based students to gain professional experience in a supportive environment.
This is a fixed term position over the 2026/27 summer holidays, where you will be responsible for assisting with Water Services and Civil projects including field work, data collection, reporting, and engineering design.
We currently have some exciting projects underway in water, wastewater, drainage and roading infrastructure, where your skills can be applied. What you’ll be responsible for
Working alongside experienced engineers and project staff, you will assist with a variety of engineering activities across Council infrastructure projects, including:
Data collection, investigations, and reporting
Field work and site inspections
Engineering design and drafting support
Preparation of plans and project documentation
Administrative and project support activities
Contributing to water, wastewater, stormwater, and roading projects
This role provides exposure to the full project delivery process and is ideal for engineering students wanting hands-on experience in a professional environment.
About You
To be successful, you will:
Be currently studying towards an Engineering degree
Be within 12–18 months of completing your qualification
Have an interest in civil infrastructure and project delivery
Demonstrate strong communication, organisation, and problem-solving skills
Be proactive, adaptable, and eager to learn
Ideally hold a full NZ driver's licence
