Waimakariri District Council is seeking a people focused and experienced Rates and Debtors Team Leader to join our Customer Services Unit. This is a pivotal role responsible for leading the team that manages rates setting, assessment, collection, and sundry debtor processes for the Council. This is a permanent full-time role based in Rangiora.
What You’ll Be Doing
• Leading, coaching, and supporting a team of six to promote a collaborative and high-performance culture.
• Managing core databases (property, contacts, rates) to ensure data accuracy, security and accessibility.
• Overseeing the production of legally compliant rates assessments, invoices and processes.
• Managing administration of the Rates Rebate Scheme and supporting credit control processes.
• Ensuring robust systems and internal controls are in place to support revenue collection.
• Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to develop rating policies and improve service delivery.
What We’re Looking For
• 8-10 years’ experience in a senior rates officer or sole charge rates role.
• Proven leadership ability with the ability to motivate, coach and develop others.
• Strong understanding of relevant legislation, compliance obligations and rating processes.
• Excellent communication, relationship management and customer service skills.
• A solutions-focused mindset with a commitment to continuous improvement.
• High level of accuracy, numeracy, and proficiency in Microsoft Office.

A competitive remuneration package dependent on skills and experience, current range $91,460 to $107,600. Starting salaries will be based on knowledge, skills and experience the successful candidate brings to the role, and relativities both within the immediate team and in the broader organisation for the same or similar roles.
