About the Role
In this dynamic and varied role, you will provide effective and efficient administrative support to the Environmental Services Unit (ESU) across the entirety of the food, alcohol, and health regulatory functions. You will be responsible for maintaining accurate, accessible, and up-to-date records, processing enquiries and applications, and supporting licensing and registration activities for food businesses, alcohol licensing, alcohol licences and certificates, and premises regulated under the Health Act.
Working closely with the Environmental Health Team Leader and wider team, you will help ensure the food, alcohol, and health registration systems operate efficiently, meet deadlines, deliver excellent customer service, and remain compliant with relevant legislation.
Key Responsibilities
• Maintain Waimakariri District Council systems related to ESU activities and services.
• Support the Environmental Health Team Leader in delivering in-house regulatory services and assist in meeting Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s).
• Ensure timely and accurate registration of businesses and premises under relevant Acts.
• Provide administrative support and guidance to staff on procedures and systems.
• Fulfil reporting and documentation requirements.
• Participate in corporate projects and inter-departmental initiatives.
• Implement and improve systems and processes for environmental health registration and infringement notice compliance.
• Ensure all procedures are well-documented and aligned with best practice.
• Participate in Civil Defence training programmes, exercises and responses.
• Proficiency in using technology and systems to manage records and processes.
• A proactive approach to continuous improvement and customer service.
What We’re Looking For
• Proven experience in administration, preferably in a regulatory or local government environment.
• Strong attention to detail.
• Excellent organisational skills with the ability to cope with changing priorities and deadlines.
• Ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.
• Proficiency in using technology and systems to manage records and processes.
• A proactive approach to continuous learning, improvement and customer service.
• Familiarity with relevant legislation such as the Sale and Supply of Alcohol Act (2012), the Food Act (2014), and the Health Act (1956) would also be advantageous.
